Uno+ Better Children for the World

With UNO+, the founders have certainly picked a very appropriate name for their project. It means "another one" and refers to the goal of improving the lives of children in order to change the world in a positive way.

UNO+ was established in 2013 by Dennis and Kyle León in Esterillo Oeste (Costa Rica). The program now supports up to 70 children ages six to eighteen in Esterillos and three additional locations. Aside from the program in Bandera, Esterillos Oeste, Jacó and Parrita will soon be starting another in La Loma. To that end, a house has already been rented out, which will be renovated for the children.

The aim of the project is to support young children and teenagers in a holistic way. A session will be offered twice a week, in which the students can get help with their homework or test preparation, depending on what they need most. Additionally, the children will be able to express their creativity through arts and crafts and will have the opportunity to learn cooperation skills through team sports.

The program's offerings emphasize Christian values, not only for the well-being of the children, but also to promote environmental stewardship. The work of UNO+ is especially important on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, where the dropout rate for high school students is significantly higher than in other regions of the country. Through their efforts, the tutors hope to provide the children with a strong educational foundation and thereby, a chance at a better life in adulthood.

Certainly, it will not remain UNO+, rather soon Muchos+, "many more" will form.
